The Forbidden Game The Kill Chapter 16 Free Essays

The essential vitality, the mercury brilliance, was gone from Julian’s figure. Jenny was all the while holding his hand, however it out of nowhere appeared to be less generous. She held more tight and her fingers met. We will compose a custom article test on The Forbidden Game: The Kill Chapter 16 or on the other hand any comparable subject just for you Request Now Julian’s body was dissolving into fog and shadows. In a second even those had vanished. Much the same as that. Like smoke up a fireplace. Jenny sat out of sorts. At that point, gradually from the start, however more rapidly with each progression, her companions assembled around her. Jenny felt Tom’s arms, and felt that he was shaking. She covered her head in his shoulder and held him as he held her. It was Audrey and Michael who were the most accommodating in what must be done straightaway. There were a great deal of viable things to be dealt with. Here in Pennsylvania the sun was simply rising, and home in California it was 3:00 in the first part of the day. Audrey and Michael went nearby and woke the neighbors up and inquired as to whether they could utilize a telephone. At that point Audrey called her folks and woke them up, and inquired as to whether they could please wire some cash. Furthermore, Michael called his dad and woke him up, and requested that he disclose to everyone else’s guardians that all the children were sheltered. That was something for Jenny to cling to, once Audrey and Michael had revealed back. The idea that Michael’s father would call Mr. what's more, Mrs. Parker-Pearson and revealing to them Summer was getting back home. Michael’s father was an essayist and marginally odd, however a grown-up, and in this manner fairly believable. Possibly they would even trust him. Jenny truly couldn’t hold on to see Summer’s little brother’s face. Furthermore, she needed to see her folks, as well, and her own younger sibling. There were different things. Angela, P.C.’s nearly sweetheart, who might need to be informed that P.C. was truly and really dead. What's more, there would be the police to manage once more, and unimaginable inquiries to reply. Be that as it may, she couldn’t consider such at this point. She was all the while pondering Julian. Nothing passed on in the event that it wasn’t overlooked and she could always remember him. There would consistently be some piece of him in her psyche. As a result of him, for her entire life she’d be increasingly delicate to the excellence of the world. To its-erotic nature and quickness. Julian had been an exceptionally quick individual. The most exceptional individual she could ever meet, Jenny thought. Eccentric, unrealistic, wild-unimaginable. He had been such a significant number of things. Enticing as silver and fatal as a cobra. Also, powerless like a hurt kid underneath everything. Like a hurt youngster who could hit out with deadly exactness, Jenny thought as she watched Audrey moving gradually around the lounge, cleaning things. He’d hurt Audrey severely, and on the off chance that he hadn’t very murdered Summer, it had been close. He’d let his Shadow Animals murder Gordie Wilson, who’d just been blameworthy of playing hooky and slaughtering bunnies. The fact of the matter was that Julian had likely been too hazardous to even think about living. The universe would be an a lot more secure spot without him. However, more unfortunate. Also, additionally exhausting, certainly all the more exhausting. It was Summer who said the surprising thing. â€Å"You know,† she stated, in the wake of curving around on the lounge sofa to check whether the taxi was coming, â€Å"Julian said the world was detestable and unpleasant recollect? Yet, at that point he substantiated himself that it wasn’t.† Jenny came out of her own contemplations and saw Summer, astounded. That was it, precisely, obviously. What's more, that was the reason she could continue living, and even anticipate things. In a universe where that could occur, you needed to continue living and trusting and giving a valiant effort. In a universe where that could occur, anything was conceivable. That was Julian’s genuine blessing, she thought. Yet, there was another, as well, and she considered it to be she taken a gander at the others. They had all changed-Julian had transformed them. Like the rune Dagaz, the impetus, he’d changed each and every individual who met him. Audrey and Michael-take a gander at them. They were strolling around clasping hands. Audrey hadn’t even tried to put her hair up. Michael was tapping her shoulder defensively. What's more, Dee and Audrey had been foes a month prior. After today around evening time, Jenny didn’t figure they would ever be that way again. Zach, presently Zach was taking a gander at Summer with bewildered enthusiasm for his sharp dim eyes. Like a researcher who ends up startlingly entranced by another type of bloom. Won’t most recent seven days, Jenny thought. However, it was useful for Zach to see young ladies, notwithstanding. To have a human enthusiasm, something other than his own creative mind and his photos. Julian had instructed Zach that creative mind wasn’t in every case superior to the real world. Summer is extraordinary, as well, Jenny thought. She’s not half as jumbled as she used to be. That’s why Zach’s gazing. Presently, Dee†¦ Jenny went to take a gander at her companion. Dee was sitting as opposed to pacing, with one long leg extended before her. She was looking attentive, her head bowed, her thickly lashed eyes limited. Indeed, Dee was Dee, and could never show signs of change, Jenny thought affectionately. In any case, she wasn't right. As she watched, Dee gazed toward her and grinned. â€Å"You know, I’ve been thinking. What's more, I was figuring it would mean a significant difference in plans, you see. It would mean a ton of examining, and I despise studying.† She halted, and Jenny squinted, at that point inclined forward. â€Å"Dee?† â€Å"I’m considering perhaps setting off for college all things considered. Perhaps. I’m scarcely engaging the idea.† Dee had changed, as well. â€Å"Aba would be happy,† Jenny stated, and afterward she dropped it, since she was worried about the possibility that that Dee would turn stubborn. Dee truly abhorred being pushed. â€Å"It’s your own choice,† was all she included. â€Å"Yes, it is. Everything truly is, isn’t it? Our own choice.† Jenny looked down at the gold ring on her finger, at that point caught her other hand over it. â€Å"A parcel is.† What's more, Tom was diverse the way that Jenny was wearing that ring indicated how unique. He hadn’t said a word regarding it; she didn’t even think he disapproved. He comprehended. In the event that he hadn’t, Jenny would never have been glad. As it seemed to be, she knew he wouldn’t despise her on the off chance that she attempted to dream Julian into a brilliant dream. He might not have any desire to catch wind of it, yet he wouldn’t be disturbed. He didn’t underestimate her any longer, and he didn’t should be possessive, either. Jenny imagined that perhaps he had changed the majority of all. Or then again perhaps she had. â€Å"The cab’s here,† Michael said. â€Å"Okay, so first we need to go to the doctor†¦ .† He gazed at a jotted list. â€Å"No, first we go toward the Western Union office, at that point the doctor,† Audrey stated, taking the rundown from him. â€Å"Then-â€Å" â€Å"Then we eat,† Michael said. â€Å"Apres vous,† Dee stated, signaling them through the entryway. When Audrey climbed a copper eyebrow at her, she smiled. â€Å"I can toss those extravagant words around, as well. Bonjour. O solo mio. Gesundheit.† â€Å"D’accord,† Audrey said and smiled back at her. Zach and Summer went out. Jenny halted for only a moment on the limit, sufficiently long to think back. The corridor was unfilled, the entryway to the cellar was closed. That was acceptable. On the off chance that any grown-ups would tune in to Jenny, she would have them ensure that entryway was never opened again. She turned and headed outside. As they set out toward the taxi, Michael said the sort of thing that no one but Michael could state. The sort of thing that originated from having a sci-fi creator as a father. â€Å"Look. Imagine a scenario where sometime in the not so distant future someone cut Julian’s name back onto that runestave?† he said. Tom halted abruptly on the rich green grass for a second. At that point he began strolling once more, as Jenny put an arm through his. â€Å"Don’t even discussion about it,† he said. â€Å"It’ll never happen.† â€Å"No, I surmise not. Similarly as well.† Furthermore, Jenny, her arm laced with Tom’s, concurred - at the same time, somewhere inside, some minuscule piece of her pondered. She couldn’t surrender to the twinge of contemplative distress she believed she had an actual existence to fabricate. Interesting points. She couldn’t simply follow Tom to school now. She needed to discover what she needed to do to pass the time. What do I like? she thought. Swimming. PCs. Felines. Helping individuals. Children. Blossoms. She didn’t know how she was going to assemble each one of those she’d need to discover a way. All things considered, she was Jenny Thornton, her solitary ace. Be that as it may, not long before she got into the taxi, she gazed toward the Pennsylvania sky. It was so blue-a bluer blue than California skies ever were in the first part of the day. An excellent, brilliant shading that appeared to be loaded up with guarantee. Assuming, sometime in the future, Julian ought to be reawakened, she wished him well. NURSING NUTRITION PROJECT Essay Example For Students

NURSING NUTRITION PROJECT Essay Evelyn M. Hayes Mrs. Dyer Fundamentals 10/23/04 Nutrition Project In this nutrition project, I kept a food diary of everything I ate for two days. This allowed me to compare my diet to what is recommended as a healthy diet and to identify any flaws that exist. I will be abbreviating day one as D1 and day 2 as D2. I found my caloric intake to be lower than the recommended 2,200 calories per day. For D1, I had 1720 total calories and for D2 I had 1825 total calories. I found my fat percentage to be a little high at 44% on D1, but it was only 28% on D2. The norm is 25-30%. My protein intake should be 10-15%, and on D1 was 14%, but on D2 was 23%. As for carbohydrate intake, the norm is 50-60%. My intake was a little low, being 42% on D1, and 49% on D2. This shows that I need to eat more carbohydrates and less fats. Also my overall caloric intake should be higher. Improvement could be made in my hydration also. I drank 20 oz. of water per day, but this is not enough. This pattern shows in comparing my diet to the food pyramid. I did not eat enough servings from the bread group (5 on D1 and 3 on D2), which should be 9 a day. My vegetable intake is also low (1 on D1, and 2 on D2), the minimum should be 4 servings a day. I had 1 serving of fruit per day, which should be 3 a day. My milk intake was OK with 2 on D1 and 1 on D2. Meat intake was also good meeting the 2 a day minimum. Even though my diet is lacking in some areas I am overweight. My BMI is 28. I am 5 6 and weigh 170 lbs. My ideal weight range is 130-144 for a medium framed woman, therefore I am about 25 lbs. overweight. Most women in their lifetime experience a urinary tract infection, or UTI. A UTI is a bacterial infection of the urinary tract and possibly the bladder. It is most often caused by bacteria which cannot exit the urethra. This bacteria thrives in the wet environment of the bladder and urines acidic makeup irritates the inflamed lining, creating the intense burning sensation experienced. Also lower back problems can interfere with nerves that go to the bladder, causing dysfunction in not completely emptying the bladder. Symptoms included burning sensation with urination, the need to urinate more frequently, and if untreated can travel to the kidney and cause a kidney infection. Women are more prone to UTIs than men because of their anatomy. A womens urethra is shorter that a mans and is closer to the anus. It allows for closer proximity of entry for bacteria and a shorter route to the bladder. There are several ways to help prevent a UTI. Most importantly is to drink lots of fluids. Voiding flushes the bladder and rids bacteria. The more you drink, the more you can flush your system. Void when your bladder is full. It is naturally cleansing as it flows through the extremics of the pelvis and washes away bacteria. When cleansing the perineum, always wipe from front to back. This keeps bacteria away from the entry point of the urethra. Some sexual practices may also contribute to UTIs. If using a diaphragm for contraception, make sure it is sized properly. One that is too large will obstruct the bladder neck and keep it from emptying completely. After intercourse, the excess urine along with bacteria from intercourse can cause infection since many women keep the diaphragm in place for up to 8 hours. When using a lubricant, use sparingly. If it enters your urethra, it can become a breeding ground for infection. Some dietary measures to help cystitis are to eat foods high in vitamin E, B6, and C. Vitamin E prevents bladder spasms and dilates the blood vessels. .u33329d053f42520c9ce68a72012c049d , .u33329d053f42520c9ce68a72012c049d .postImageUrl , .u33329d053f42520c9ce68a72012c049d .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u33329d053f42520c9ce68a72012c049d , .u33329d053f42520c9ce68a72012c049d:hover , .u33329d053f42520c9ce68a72012c049d:visited , .u33329d053f42520c9ce68a72012c049d:active { border:0!important; } .u33329d053f42520c9ce68a72012c049d .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u33329d053f42520c9ce68a72012c049d { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u33329d053f42520c9ce68a72012c049d:active , .u33329d053f42520c9ce68a72012c049d:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u33329d053f42520c9ce68a72012c049d .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u33329d053f42520c9ce68a72012c049d .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u33329d053f42520c9ce68a72012c049d .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u33329d053f42520c9ce68a72012c049d .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u33329d053f42520c9ce68a72012c049d:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u33329d053f42520c9ce68a72012c049d .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u33329d053f42520c9ce68a72012c049d .u33329d053f42520c9ce68a72012c049d-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u33329d053f42520c9ce68a72012c049d:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Exxon Mobil Merger Trend Analysis Essay Vitamin B6 aids in patients with interstitial cystitis. Intro to Microeconomics Study Guide free essay sample

Economics is the study of allocation of scarce resources 1) Chapter One: The Principles of Microeconomics a. Four resources: Land, Labor, Capital (machinery), Entrepreneurship (human capital) b. Principle #1: People face trade-offs, government also faces them, the main one the gov. faces is efficiency vs. equity i. Efficiency is when everyone who makes the most, keeps the most money ii. Equity would be if everyone was taxed the same c. Principle #2: The cost of something is what you give up iii. Opportunity cost = the measurement of trade-off you give up something you can have later, to get something now d. Principle #3: Rational people think at the margin iv. They do what’s best for them and maximize benefits v. Think at the margin = thinking about the NEXT one vi. Margin=small incremental changes e. Principle #4: People respond to incentives vii. Prices are major incentives viii. Taxes/tax credit f. Principle #5: Trade can make everyone better off ix. We will write a custom essay sample on Intro to Microeconomics Study Guide or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Everybody can specialize x. More variety of goods xi. Doesn’t always make everyone better off ex: Jamaica, NAFTA xii. One partner can be strong and over power others g. Principle #6: Markets are a good way to organize economic activity xiii. People are guided by self-interest xiv. Markets are where consumers and suppliers come together and trade-off occurs h. Principle #7: The government can improve market outcomes xv. Main act of government – enforce property rights xvi. Government can step in if there’s market failureexternalities occur (taxes can be enforced for cigarettes), people who aren’t in the market are ffected xvii. Government can step in when there’s market power xviii. Monopoly/oligopoly-government might step in 2) Chapter 2: What does it mean to think like an economist? i. Objectively j. Scientific method xix. Observe, hypothesis, identify variables, collect data, test hypothesis, draw a conclusion k. Difficult to conduct a controlled experiment in economics l. Circular Flow Diagram = money and goods and services flow from input marketoutput market xx. Flow of Money: Market for factors of production (input market) households get income spending on markets of goods and services (output market) which generates revenue for firmswhich pay wages and rent for factors of production xxi. Flow of goods and services: Market for factors of production (input market) buys factors (land, labor, capital and entrepreneurship)firms which sell goods and servicesto market of gas and serviceswhich buy goods and services from households, which sell factors to market for factors of production xxii. This marketing is missing government, trade, savings, black market activities and charity work/non-profits m. Production Possibilities Frontier: how much a country can produce xxiii. Assumptions: one country, two goods, resource = labor xxiv. Bowed out PPF due to different resources (L) xxv. Opportunity cost increases with bowed out PPF because it takes more and more to make one more of the good xxvi. Any points along the PPF are efficient, outside the curve are not feasible and inside the curve is inefficient xxvii. Efficiency means we maximize our resources xxviii. To get more of the good, you have to give up some of the other good xxix. More resources for both goods increase: entire curve shifts out xxx. More resources for just one good increase: curve shifts on one side only xxxi. If the PPF is straight, it’s because there are multiple resources for both goods xxxii. Just stating a fact = positive statement and normative statement = subjective 3) Chapter 3: Absolute and Comparative Advantage n. Absolute advantage is when you make something more efficiently than someone else, so that less is required, which means less opportunity cost xxxiii. Assumptions: 2 people who can make goods, 2 goods that both people want to consumer, time is the only input, both people want to consume both goods and they’ll only trade if they can produce one good xxxiv. Each person works 8 hrs. per day o. Farmer can produce 8 donuts and 32 cups of coffee; Baker can produce 24 donuts and 48 cups of coffee xxxv. The baker has absolute advantage because he can make more donuts and more coffee than the farmer in 8 hrs. xxxvi. Graphing: use points (8, 0) and (0, 32) for farmer’s PPF and CPF (consumption possibilities frontier). Use points (24, 0) and (0, 48) for baker’s PPF and CPF p. Trade deal: Farmer will make only coffee (which is all 32 cups of coffee in 8 hrs. ), baker offers farmer 5 donuts for 15 cups of coffee xxxvii. Trade increases variety xxxviii. Farmer ends up with +5 donuts and 15 cups coffee = 5 donuts and 17 cups coffee q. Comparative advantage is when you have a lower opportunity cost xxxix. The opportunity cost of one donut for the farmer is 4 cups of coffee and for the baker is 2 cups of coffeebaker is comparative advantage in donuts because of lower opportunity cost xl. The opportunity cost for one cup of coffee for the farmer is ? donut and for the baker is ? donutfarmer has opportunity cost in coffee because of lower opportunity cost r. The price range after the trade deal will lie between opportunity cost of both people, so both are better off xli. 2 cups of coffee ? P ? 4 cups of coffee 4) Chapter 4: Supply and Demand s. Assumptions: one good, one market, market is perfectly competitive (many buyers and sellers, all goals are the same across firms and price takers) t. Demand xlii. Demand curve shows relationship between price and willingness to buy (P and Qd) xliii. Quantity demanded (Qd) is the amount consumers are willing and able to buy xliv. LAW OF DEMAND: P, Qd = negative correlation xlv. Market demand is the sum of individuals’ demands xlvi. Variables that increase or decrease demand: IP-TEN 1. Income a. I, Qd = Normal good b. I, Qd = Inferior good 2. Price of related goods c. Pa, QDb = Substitutes d. Pa, QDb = Complements 3. Taste and preferences 4. ExpectationsEx: when you except the price of a good to increase later on, you will buy more now when it’s cheaper 5. Number of buyersMore buyers = higher demand u. Supply xlvii. Supply curve shows relationship between Price and Quantity supplied (P and Qs) xlviii. Quantity supplied is the amount sellers are willing and able to sell xlix. LAW OF SUPPLY: P, Qd = Positive correlation l. Variables that shift supply curve: I-TEN 6. Input price (Ex: wages increase) e. IP, Qs f. IP, Qs 7. Technologyadvancement means Cost, Supply 8. Expectationsexcepting a technological advancement 9. Number of sellers g. # Sellers, Qs h. # Sellers, Qs v. Consider: market for hybrid cars li. Innovation at Google Example

Innovation at Google Example Innovation at Google – Coursework Example Case Study Questions Case Study Questions Case Study 3 Innovation at Google Advertisers are the primary source of revenue for Google. Google generates 99% of its revenue from its advertisers and through enterprise products such as Google Mini and Google Appliance. Google generates proceeds from its advertisers by charging them on a â€Å"pay-per-click† basis. Ads are displayed within the search engine and other Google services such as Gmail. Every time these ads are clicked, Google charges the advertisers. Google also has built a network wherein the ads are displayed on the websites of the network members and Google shares the revenue with the members. It is important to note here that the advertisements don’t dilute the search results. Google has ensured to keep its search engine clean and promises to not to influence search based on payments. There are various risk factors that Google itself has identified as a threat to future revenue generation. Index spammers have b een consistently trying to find loop holes in Google’s search algorithm which would compromise the integrity of search results which would then affect the traffic to the websites which, in turn, affects revenue generation. New ad blocking technologies can affect Google’s results in the future. Print, TV, audios and video ads comprise the future levels of revenue generation for Google. Google has introduced classified style ads for the various media listed above. The new streams of revenue generation counter the risks posed for the current revenue generation model adopted by Google. Most risks are focused on blocking the ads and these new streams give Google more control. Ad blocking would be very difficult in these streams. Print and television ads are aimed at placing ads in print media and television commercials while video ads generate revenue when one watches a video Google service such as Youtube.Case Study 3.2: New Architecture or New Hype2. The reliance on a sin gle provider will be greatly reduced by the introduction of SOA. The basic concept behind SOA is to automate the entire business process that is right now run across different IT systems (Dave, 2008). As of now, each company sets up its own IT function which is completely different with other companies. This is because of different technological needs of different countries. Introduction of SOA will be able to infuse flexibility into the whole process by automating many business processes and giving them an opportunity to tie them together. This would make the work on projects that span across different systems and companies a lot easier and also affordable. The functionality will also enable new applications to automatically communicate with each other irrespective of which business aspect or system they deal with. This would lead to a more effective use of resources and time.ReferencesDave, C. (2008). E-business and e-commerce management. NJ: E-Business and E-Commerce Management.

Causes and Effects of Air Pollution Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Causes and Effects of Air Pollution - Essay Example This paper illustrates that natural pollutants include volcanic eruptions, forest fires, wind erosion, natural radioactivity, and organic compounds evaporation, dispersal of pollen and wind erosion. Although these natural events have proved to cause a measure of air pollution, their frequency is very low. The main sources of air pollution are human activities. Industries are among the leading sources of air pollutants of numerous gases such as carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide. Other pollutants from industries are organic compounds, especially from petroleum refineries. The burning of fossil fuels in different locomotives is an additional cause of air pollutants with the increasing reliance on vehicles, trains, and motorcycles. These pollutants include gases such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons, and particulates. Household and farming chemicals form the third source of air pollutants. These pollutants emanate from activities such as fumigating ho mes, dusting crops, and pesticide spraying. Air pollution has multiple detrimental effects on the environment and humans. Gases such as sulfur dioxide and oxides of nitrogen usually mix with rainwater forming the acid that destroys vegetation and pollutes water. Moreover, some pollutants find their way into the soil through rain and cause eutrophication. Other pollutants have led to the formation of ground-level ozone that has affected people’s health adversely. Air pollution also involves particulate matter such as lead and presents multiple effects. Such particulate matter may cause respiratory disorders and long-term effects such as cancer, heart disease, and kidney disorders.

The History of the United States Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

The History of the United States - Research Paper Example The civil war arose when the US people fought over power, land. (Burke 12). The Southerners felt threatened since they were thriving well in the slave trade. They feared the north might interfere with the growth of the trade which was booming at that time. It might be said with conviction that it is indeed slave trade that leads to the division of America into two, but there are other reasons. At that time, the Southerners whose daily lifestyle relied much on plantation farming and could, therefore, not do without slaves and the slave trade. They wished that it could grow and even spread in the west. In the contrary, the northerners who were politically and economically doing well posed a threat to the Southerners. So for the survival of the union of the American state, it was necessary that the slave trade was not tempered with, but left to grow (Burke 27). However, in 1860 when Abraham Lincoln became president, the union of American states came to a point where enough is enough. Wh en he publicly made his intentions clear to stop growth of the slave trade but not slavery, he compelled South Carolina followed by six other American southern states to withdraw from the union. This lead to the Civil war that lasted for four years after the seven states united and named Jefferson Davis there president. On15th of April 1861 due to break up of the states there followed a lot of fights and states of unrest battles with the first reported incidence being on July 21st 1861. At this point nothing, much could be done to stop the war anticipated. President Lincoln gave a decree that soldiers be reinforced around Fort Caswell and Fort Johnson but was all in vain due to luck of cooperation from some of the states like Missouri, North Carolina and Tennessee (Finney 33). There was some response to the president’s order from some companies from Pennsylvania who offered and provided soldiers on the 18th of April 1861. Between 18th and 19 of April soldiers managed a little to destroy points where weapons were kept in Virginia. At this juncture, President Lincoln pronounced the closer of states belonging to the Confederate. When the soldiers of the Union dared to pass through the Confederate states, Baltimore soldiers went on a rampage as a retaliate gesture. This made Lincoln add more closure by including Virginia and North Carolina in the list of sates closed. On the 20th of April 1861, there was an attempt by the Federal soldiers to Attack Virginia among other states. However, there was help by the Confederates who happened to save a lot of valuable staffs making the Federal soldiers retreat. On the seventh 25th of April the same year there was more reinforcement in Washington DC. On 29th, an election was held (Keifer 46). The governor was given the power to select commissioners by the Legislative body at Tennessee so the commissioners can be in accordance with the Confederacy. Voters who were supporting the re-evaluation of the conditions leading to the breakup of the United States Where joined hand in hand by The North Carolina legislative body. In May 17th North Carolina and Confederacy join hands. The voting was only restricted among the legislative body, and the citizens were not allowed to participate (Long 77). Conclusion A lot of activities was done at the legislative level most of which were being decided by the power of the ballot box. In the war, many civilian lost their lives; the national government became stronger

The Random Access Memory Computer Science Essay

The Random Access Memory Computer Science Essay Computer data storage provides one of the core functions of the modern computer, that of information retention. It is one of the fundamental components of all modern computers, and coupled with a central processing unit (CPU, a processor), implements the basic computer model used since the 1940s[2].Physical memory is a general term that refers to the media data cache on your computer. Being processed for each program and data by the processor will be stored in physical memory. Data is stored in physical memory is temporary, because it will store the data stored in it on a computer that does not continue to flow through the power in other words, the computer is still alive. When you are re-set the computer on or off, will be the loss of data stored in physical memory. So, before you shut down your computer, do not store all data in the mass permanent storage usually tend to be permanent and the media-based disk storage, such as hard disk or floppy disk. There are some types of compute r memory which is Random Access Memory (RAM), Read Only Memory (ROM), Virtual memory, Cache Memory and Flash Memory MAIN BODY Random Access Memory (RAM) consists of a set of chips. Chip-chip is able to accommodate the data to be processed, or program instructions, to process data which has been processed and waiting to be sent to output devices, secondary storage or communication also device. Operating system that controls the basic functions of the system data and instructions had accommodated in RAM is temporary. The contents of RAM can vary according to the processed data in it, or even use the program. RAM is the computer resources of its reusable or can be used of RAM referred to as the volatile products. This means that if the power is disconnected from the computer and the computer dead, then all content that is in RAM will be lost permanently. Because RAM is temporary and volatile, then the other storage media to create a permanent nature. This is commonly referred to as secondary storage. Secondary storage is durable and not too volatile, this means all data or programs stored in it can still exist even if the power or the power is turned off. Some examples of this such as secondary storage are magnetic tape, hard drives, magnetic disks and optical storage disk.Capacity of RAM is very diverse in different computers. Capacity is an important factor, because it determines how much data can be processed in the same time and how large and complex programs that can store. Computer operating system in charge of regulating the use of RAM so that programs can work well. To understand the capacity of the RAM, then some of the following terminology is often. Bit, which is a binary numbering system that represents the smallest unit of data in a computer system? A bit consists of only two digits are 1 and 0. In the computer, 0 means electronic or magnetic signals are absent or absent, while 1 means. Byte, which is a group of eight bits. A byte represents one character, a digit or a value. The capacity of computer memory, or RAM, specified in bytes or groups of bytes. Data, and program instructions stored in the RAM is actually stored in the bits that represent data, instruction and program earlier. Bits are stored in an electronic part called the microscopic capacitor. Read Only Memory (ROM) is a set of chips that contain part of the operating system which is needed when the computer starts up. ROM is also known as a firmware. ROM is not writable or changed its contents by the user. ROM classified in the media that are non-volatile storage. ROM chips come from the factory with programs or instructions that have been stored in it. The only way to replace its contents is removed from the computer and replace it with another ROM. ROM chip can contain frequently used programs, such as computational routines to calculate the root of a number of ROM and others. This example is for the storage of the BIOS (Basic Input-Output System) which by the manufacturer. BIOS are a very critical part of an operating system, which functions to tell the computer how I access the disk drives. When the computer is turned on, RAM is still empty and there are instructions in the ROM BIOS is used by the CPU to find the disk drive that contains the main files in the operatin g system. Computer and then transfer those files into RAM and then there are three variations of the ROM, i.e. PROM, or programmable read only memory. PROM chip is a chip that is empty in which the program can be written into it by using special equipment. PROM chips can be programmed once and usually used by the plant as a control device in the product. PROM or erasable programmable read only memory. EPROM similar to PROM, but the program can be removed and the new program could be written into it by using special equipment that uses ultraviolet light. EPROM is used for controlling devices, such as robots .EEPROM, or electronic erasable programmable read only memory. EEPROM chip can be reprogrammed using special electric impulses. Virtual memory is a data storage method in which part of the program or data stored in the magnetic disk and not in RAM, until such time as necessary. This will provide a kind of illusion that the RAM is its unlimited. Upshot simulates virtual memory itself as a RAM. He allows a computer to run more programs than ever before manipulate larger data and also runs a large program without fear of shortage of RAM. Virtual storage is slower than RAM and non-volatile nature. Cache memory is the storage of data or information, while the most frequently used or accessed by a computer. Cache memory located on the CPU or on a separate chip. CPU cache memory used to store instructions that are frequently used to run a program. Indirectly, this will improve overall system speed. There are two parts of the cache memory on a computer that is level 1 and level 2 caches is often with L1 and L2. L1 cache is on a built-in CPU and the L2 cache is located in a separate chip, and is located near the CPU. Some CPUs have a built-L1 and L2 and L3 are located on the outside. CPU which has a built-in cache memory much faster than the outside because it operates in tandem with microprosessor speed. Flash memory is non-volatile memory whose contents are maintained after power off. Flash memory can be read from and written to multiple times and more durable than floppy disks or compact disc. Flash memory devices used in various contributions to the stability, fast access, durability and clean energy power consumption. In addition to use as memory cards and thumb drives, flash memory is also used as a substitute for the hard-drive in the form of solid-state drive and hybrid. Flash memory to store and transfer files between computers and digital appliances. This is a form of EPROM electrically programmable read-can delete the memory-only. The types of flash memory are a compact flash (CF), Secure Digital (SD) media, memory sticks, multimedia cards, and xD-Picture cards. CONCLUSION The computers memory, often called memory only refers to any computer components, devices and recording media that retain digital data for a certain period of time. Computer data storage provides one of the main tasks of the modern computer, to store information. Memory is one of most important components in any computer system. Without Computer Memory, your computer system is useless and will only take up space in your desk. Computer Memory is a bridge between your permanent storage system disks, CDs, and the Processor. Hard drives are very slow when compared with a CPU processing time so Computer Memory is used to buffer data during time it is processed so bottlenecks are reduced.

Sir Gawain and the Green Knight :: Sir Gawain Green Knight Poem Essays

Sir Gawain and the Green Knight Sir Gawain and the Green Knight was written by an anonymous author in the 14th century. It was written in a dialect from Northern England. The poem uses alliteration similar to the Anglo-Saxon form of poetry. Alliteration uses a repetition of consonants. The poem ends the way it begins. At the end of each scene, the section of the poem concludes with a sharp rhyme. There are many patterns that are developed by the author in the poem. There are three literal hunts with the deer, boar and fox. The deer is represented as being timid; the boar is represented as being ferocious, and the fox as being cunning and sly. There are also three symbolic hunts, three attempts to seduce Gawain and the three hits of the Green Knight's ax. The poem seems to emphasize magical elements such as Morgan, Merlin, and the Green Knight. The poem gives us a very realistic depiction of the slaughtering of the animals, the big feasts that take place, as well as the changing seasons. The poem also contains many religious elements such as the celebrations that take place according to the church calendar. King Authur's court is in the midst of a celebration that has taken place for fifteen days. They are celebrating the New Year, and in the middle of their celebration, the Green Knight and his green horse come barging into the hall. Sir Gawain is the youngest knight of the Round Table. He is the only one that volunteers to play the "game" with the Green Knight. The game is that the challenger gets a chance to hit the Green Knight now, but in a year and a day, he must go to the Green Knight's chapel and then the Green Knight will test him and if he fails the tests, the Green Knight will hit him. The Green Knight has no fear, and he even lowers his neck to make it easier for Gawain. Gawain bravely cuts off the Green Knight's head, and the Green Knight proceeds to pick it up. Then the head speaks to the people on the dais, and he reminds them of the deal. The Green Knight then rides off on his horse with his head in his hand. The people in the hall are surprised that King Arthur allows Gawain to go on this journey to the Green Knight's chapel. Costco mini case study Essay

1. What is Costco’s business model? Is the company’s business model appealing? Why or why not? Generating high sales volume and rapid inventory turnover by offering fee-paying members low prices on nationally branded and private-label products. Yes, it is appealing because the fees paid by members allowed for sufficient supplemental revenues while the turnover rates allowed Costco to receive cash for inventory before it had to pay many of its merchandise vendors. 2. What are the chief elements of Costco’s strategy? How good is the strategy? Pricing, product selection, treasure hunt merchandising, low cost emphasis, and growth are the chief elements of Costco’s strategy. It is a very good strategy because they offer the lowest prices no matter what. 3. Do you think Jim Sinegal has been an effective CEO? What grades would you give him in leading the process of crafting and executing Costco’s strategy? What support can you offer for these grades? Refer to Figure 2.1 in Chapter 2 in developing your answers. Yes, I do think Jim Sinegal has been an effective CEO. I would give him an A in crafting and executing Costco’s strategy because he has been excellent in developing a strategic vision of a no-frills and low-cost store, mission, and core values, along with setting objectives of fast inventory turnover and offering the lowest prices at Costco. He has also done a good job of crafting the strategy by finding out what works best while in charge of his first store, Price Club. He executes and monitors the strategy to achieve the objectives and vision by visiting his own stores and making sure that operations are running in the most smooth and cost efficient way possible for both businesses and individual members. 4. What core values or business principles has Jim Sinegal stressed at Costco? Sinegal’s five core values include: Obey the law, take care of our members, take care of our employees, respect our suppliers, and reward our shareholders. 5. What is competition like in the North American wholesale club industry? Which of the five competitive forces is strongest and why? Use the information in Figures 3.4, 3.5, 3.6, 3.7, and 3.8 (and the related discussions in Chapter 3) to do a complete five-forces analysis of competition in the North American wholesale club industry. Competition in the North American wholesale club industry is growing 15-20 percent faster than retailing as a whole. The three main competitors are Costco, Sam’s, and BJs Wholesale. Firms in other industries  offering substitute products is the strongest of the five competitive forces because companies like Wal-Mart or internet retailers are not in the retail wholesale industry but put increased pressure on Costco by selling many of the same types of merchandise at very low prices as well. All wholesale clubs (Costco, Sam’s Club, and BJ’s Wholesale) offer low prices to attract members and provide them with considerable cost savings enough cover or exceed membership fees. It is easy for a consumer to switch their membership from wholesaler to wholesaler, thus increasing rivalry, which is a strong force in this industry. The window to enter the warehouse club industry is relatively small, unless an outsider decided to acquire BJ’s Wholesale Club, intending to expand into places where there are no BJ’s stores. The barriers for a newcomer are high; therefor the threat of new entrants is weak. While a big percentage of manufacturers for these retailers or discounters are large, they aren’t always in a strong bargaining position that could allow them to dictate the terms or conditions by which they would supply their products to their respective warehouse clubs, thus making bargaining power of the suppliers weak. The bargaining power of the buyer is also weak because of the small influence that an individual buyer has in relation to the wholesaler’s total sales. The threat of substitutes is very high in this industry. There are many places that one could go to purchase the same item. The buyer is also often times more familiar with a substitute retailer. 6. How well is Costco performing from a financial perspective? They are doing very well from a financial perspective. Some of the numbers do not look good to the traditional investor, but that is because Costco is not a traditional company. The current ratio shows that Costco can meet all current liabilities, while liquidity is also high (which means the company can quickly convert assets into cash). Profit is also constantly increased by not having to store inventory. 7. Based on the data in case Exhibits 1, 5, and 6, is Costco’s financial performance superior to that at Sam’s Club and BJ’s Wholesale? Costco is turning in much higher numbers for total revenue than BJ’s and higher sales than Sam’s. Costco holds 57 percent of the market share while BJ’s has 8 and Sam’s has 35 percent. 8. How well is Costco performing from a strategic perspective? Does Costco enjoy a competitive advantage over Sam’s Club? Over BJ’s Wholesale? If so, what is the nature of its competitive advantage? Does Costco have a winning strategy? Why or why not? They are performing very well from a strategic perspective. No, Costco does not enjoy a clear competitive advantage over Sam’s. It does however enjoy a competitive advantage over BJ’s. the nature of this competitive advantage includes the fact that BJ’s has too many products, which makes rapid turnover harder to achieve. I think that Costco has a winning strategy because they are selective with the products they choose to sell, they treat their workers well (which in turn creates higher productivity), and they are able to sell a big volume of products, keeping prices down, along with expenses and overhead costs. 9. Are Costco’s prices too low? Why or why not?  Many would argue that their prices are too low, with only 14% markup. I do not believe that they are. If the prices weren’t so drastically low, the company would not attract so many interested buyers. These prices are what set the company apart from many other competitors, and are therefor necessary for the company’s success. 10. What do you think of Costco’s compensation practices? Does it surprise you that Costco employees apparently are rather well-compensated? Better compensated than employees at Sam’s Club or BJ’s? I think that Costco’s compensation practices are once again, smart. When employees are happy, they are productive. When they are productive, they get more done. When they get more done, it eliminates the need for excess employees to do what could be done by productive employees in the workplace. It would slightly surprise me that they are so well compensated (better compensated than Sam’s Club of BJ’s) before reading the entirety of this case because of the â€Å"no-frills† policy that Costco has obviously adopted, but it also makes sense after reading this case study that the employees are so well cared for. It saves and earns Costco excess money in the long run through rising productivity and encouraging positive word-of-mouth. 11. What recommendations would you make to Costco top executives regarding how best to sustain the company’s growth and improve its financial performance? I would tell Costco’s top executives to try and acquire BJ’s wholesale, thus acquiring their 8 percent market share. I would also encourage the implementation of self-checkout in stores for ease and convenience of the  individual consumer. Other than that, I think that Costco has a strong business strategy and is implementing strategies currently to sustain the company’s growth and improve financial performance.

After four years of court cases and hearings, a judge in Phoenix ordered him to stop detaining anyone, even based on suspicion. â€Å"... States do not have the inherent authority to enforce the civil provisions of federal immigration law,† declared the judge. Five years later, since December of 2011, two federal judges have found Joseph guilty of not following and abiding to the injunction, still having misbehavior in police conduct. U.S. District Judge G. Murray stated that he was saying false statements of his department, and that Arpaio and his chief deputy , â€Å"have a history of obfuscation and subversion of this Court’s orders that is as old as this case and did not stop after they themselves became the subjects of civil contempt.† The judge understood based on his mannerisms that he had no desire to declare the truth or comply with answering the asked questions. So the judge decided to charge Joe Arpaio of criminal contempt of court, with a possible sentence of six moths in the county jail.
